The Detroit Diesel Series 71 is called a “Screaming Jimmy” because of the loud, high-pitched sound it makes when running. This engine is a two-stroke diesel that fires every revolution of the crankshaft and operates at relatively high RPM, which already makes it noisier than typical four-stroke diesels.
